Hillsboro Community Foundation Awards First-Ever Heart of Hillsboro Awards

The Hillsboro Community Foundation recognized two community volunteers with the Foundation’s first-ever Heart of Hillsboro Awards at its annual Grateful Gathering event.

The Heart of Hillsboro Award honors an individual’s dedication and passion for driving meaningful change in their community. Recipients, Lynn Scheller and Mary Ordal, have dedicated years of service behind the scenes to some of Hillsboro’s greatest treasures. Lynn Scheller has generously volunteered her time and expertise in writing grants for the past decade, procuring over $562,000 in grants for Hillsboro art and culture organizations since 2016. “She became an unofficial spokesperson for these organizations by advocating for their needs and informing granting authorities of their good work in the community”, says Cristina Bowerman, Executive Director at the Hillsboro Community Foundation.

The second recipient, Mary Ordal, has volunteered with the Hillsboro Community Foundation for over 18 years, serving in various board positions and taking great pride in sharing HCF’s rich history with anyone who will listen. “Not a week goes by without me receiving a phone call or visit from her”, says Cristina Bowerman. “She is always willing to lend an extra hand and does so in the kindest and gentlest of ways.”
