All-Inclusive Playground
In 2022, HCF and the City of Hillsboro partnered on the All-Inclusive Playground. Contributions from individuals, local businesses, corporations, and charitable foundations led to a $561,810.80 contribution to the City, $320,000 in October 2023, and $241,810.80 in October and November 2024. These generous contributions allow thousands of children, youth, and adults to benefit from the All-Inclusive Playground annually, a testament to the community’s pride and accomplishment.
With specialized equipment and safety components, the park features:
- inclusive play elements
- stable surfacing areas
- generously sized all-gender restrooms
- six accessible parking spaces
- and, not to miss, a 50-foot-long friendly forest giant made of cedar
Hillsboro community members voted to name the giant “Oro,” as in Hillsb” Oro,” which means “gold” in Spanish.
More Features at the Park
Hidden Creek Park West features:
- water play
- looping pathways
- exercise equipment
- swinging benches
- shade structures
- a hammock grove
- game areas
- a mural
In addition to the mature oaks and firs on site, more than 200 trees and native shrubs were planted as part of the project.
Hidden Creek Park West was funded with more than $500,000 in private donations from local families, companies, and nonprofits to create a place where Hillsboro plays together.
Contributions ranging from $50 to $250,000 helped the project come to life. With the specialized equipment and safety components, inclusive playgrounds are often two to five times more expensive than standard playgrounds.
In addition to private funding, Hillsboro Parks & Recreation received a $3 million federal grant to support the development of Hidden Creek Park West.
